Last weekend I went down to Virginia/DC to visit some friends and I was kicking myself for not packing a couple tank tops (it was a freakishly hot weekend for October) and days later I’m relaxing in my favorite hoodie snuggling under the blankets with hot chocolate and a good book. I think its officially fall now on the east coast. I’m so glad, because I love fall! Everything is pumpkin, the leaves turn orange and maroon (Go Hokies!) and you just want to be outside enjoying the beautiful cool weather (why can’t it be like this all the time?!?). I seen a bunch of bloggers post this ode to fall, so I’m hopping on the bandwagon.
This fall I will be:
- Making: some delicious pumpkin treats
- Cooking: some vegetarian recipes from the Moosewood cookbook
- Drinking: some Cadbury drinking chocolate. We had this on our flight to New Zealand and I’ve been obsessed ever since
- Reading: a bunch of books that have been collecting dust on my bookshelf
- Wanting: to finally be able to see my favorite band in concert
- Looking: forward to a girls weekend in CA with my mom
- Playing: with Daisy dog
- Wasting: nothing, I hate being wasteful
- Sewing: nada. Although I do have a halloween costume I could make, guess at some point in my life I thought I would actually learn to sew
- Wishing: we could win the lottery and move to New Zealand
- Enjoying: the leaves as they change colors
- Waiting: to figure out what’s next
- Wondering: what to make for dinner tomorrow
- Loving: my happy little family in our little corner of the world
- Hoping: to go to the Finger Lakes for a long weekend this month
- Marveling: at how beautiful the world can be
- Writing: this post
- Baking: sugar cookies with a wedding shower mix from 3 years ago (we didn’t die)
- Needing: a pedicure
- Smelling: fall scented candles and rain
- Wearing: dresses, totally obsessed with dresses!
- Following: the Royal family, somehow I’m hooked on Royal family gossip
- Noticing: that my husband has some man sexy legs!!
- Knowing: that I’m very fortunate
- Thinking: that I should wake up early tomorrow, maybe go to the gym, oh but I likely will oversleep
- Feeling: happy
- Bookmarking: photography tips and tricks
- Opening: good bottles of wine
- Giggling: at my husband, he his hilarious when you get him going
- Practicing: my French
I’ve been missing for awhile, but sometimes one just has to live life instead of blog about life. Our last month of summer has been fun, there was time spent at the beach with Dave’s family, drinks and dinner at various Wilmington restaurants, a visit to Arlington, my photo class photo exhibit opening, camping with a hiking mishap and winning some good deals at a silent auction during the Farmer and Chef event.
I’m happy fall is finally here. Don’t you just love fall? Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I’ve already been enjoying many pumpkin treats and loving the cooler weather. And we have many fun upcoming adventures, our fall will be quite exciting!
Look for some fun blog posts to come, I have so many updates including our destination for an upcoming vacation and the exciting changes we made to our kitchen.
Hooray for October! October makes me so happy for many reasons, here’s a few of them:
- Our honeymoon trip is next month, so exciting!
- Pumpkin everything, fall decorations
- All the leaves turn Hokie colors – I’m lucky to live in a neighborhood with a ton of trees too
- Jeans, sweaters, hoodies, sweat pants
I could probably name 1000 different things that I love about October and fall in general. It’s one of my favorite seasons. Good thing there are 5 weekends in October because the are jammed packed with activities and/or honeymoon planning/prepping!
Last weekend Dave, Daisy and I were in Hoboken to visit a friend and do a mud run in the Bronx. Aside from tripping on the sidewalk the night before the run and scrapping up my knee pretty badly (and ruining my favorite pair of jeans!), we had a blast. It was a 10k and all along the way there were several obstacles, some of which included Marine hurdles, tunnels to crawl through and low crawl mud pits. At the end of the race you go through a huge mud pit and are covered head to toe in mud!
This weekend we are headed to DC to do the Army 10 miler and visit with friends and family. The remaining weekends include fall festival parties, honeymoon planning/prepping and more honeymoon planning/prepping.
Hope you are enjoying fall!
We’ve had an extended forecast of sweater and jean weather lately here in the Mid-Atlantic, makes me think that fall is finally here! I know better though, its just a tease. But that hasn’t stopped me from stock the fridge with all kinds of pumpkin beer, oh they are all so tasty!
Hope you are enjoying your September!
I don’t think Mother Nature really knows what season its suppose to be. Today sure felt like a warm summer day, I was struggling to run this evening, I wasn’t quite use to the heat after a couple of weeks of cool weather. All I know is that technically in another hour or so, it will officially be fall. I’m already googling to find the nearest Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts (I’m still learning the area and think its a pretty good sign I don’t have this information already memorized) to get myself some kind of delicious pumpkin spiced coffee drink. I think the coffee shop in the neighborhood even has a pumpkin drink, might be stopping by there on my way to work tomorrow morning.
Tonight I enjoyed 2 big glasses of milk with dinner. There is something about milk with dinner that makes me feel like a kid again, but boy, a glass of milk really hit the spot sometimes (especially with Mac n Cheese, although we didn’t have Mac N Cheese, but I’m thinking that’s on the menu for tomorrow).
Mother Nature is treating us to a pretty cool thunderstorm right now. I’m off to cuddle with Daisy on the couch and watch from the window.
Enjoy your night!
…for some football?? I know that summer doesn’t officially end till September 22, but with football on TV, cooler weather, and people talking about pumpkin spice lattes, it sure does feel like fall.
We have been having some great weather here, great for marathon training. Here’s a look at our schedule this week:
- Mon: Rest
- Tues: 4 miles
- Wed: 8 miles
- Thurs: Interval Training
- Fri: 4-5 miles
- Sat: 14 miles
- Sun: Rest
Sunday is needed to relax and watch football. And maybe have a pumpkin ale! It’s a little annoying that all the pumpkin ales are out now, but come late October, all they will have in the stores are winter ales.
I enjoyed my first pumpkin ale this week. I’m on a quest to see who makes the best pumpkin ale. The first contestant was Smuttynose. Their pumpkin ale had a lot of pumpkin flavor, although I like a little more spice to my pumpkin ale, which it seemed to lack.
Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale
Next contestant: TBD
Very excited tomorrow is Friday.
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY CLARE!!!
I heart fall! This is my favorite time of year. I love the cool weather, the fall colors, sweaters, and celebrating two of the best holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Of course the best part of fall is…PUMPKIN and recently discovered, HONEYCRISP APPLES!
Now I know one could make pumpkin stuff at any time throughout the year (thank you canned goods), but it just doesn’t taste the same. There is just something about fall that makes pumpkin so scrumptious! I’ve already enjoyed a few pumpkin spice lattes, a pumpkin bagel and just this week I made my own pumpkin cream cheese. Check out my breakfast this morning:
No way am I stopping at just that though! I’ve already found some recipes for pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin mac n cheese and some tasty pumpkin oatmeal. I’ve never made a pie before and figured attempting to make a pumpkin pie would be a great one to try. And of course I’ll make my pumpkin bread and some cookies. I’m excited to try all kinds of different recipes, especially some that incorporate pumpkin in some dinner entrees. Any good recipe finds for pumpkin, send them my way!
A big thanks to my sister-in-law for introducing me to Honeycrisp apples! Where have these apples been all my life??? I’m usually a pretty picky apple eater, only really like a couple varieties, but I went out on a limb and tried these apples and they are SOOO delicious. I can’t get enough of them! Dave and I had them in Denver, transported a couple back with us and I was afraid that we wouldn’t be able to find any out east, but luckily I found them at Whole Foods (from a farm in PA). They are so good, I might have a bigger obsession with these apples than I do of pumpkin and I’m usually quite the pumpkin fanatic. They might just be the perfect apple – crisp, not too sweet, juicy – a must try if you haven’t already!
The marathon is only 16 days away! I’ve had some great runs this week and the funny thing is the 15 mile run planned for this weekend seems like cake (as I knock on wood, not trying to jinx myself). Happy Thursday!
